She has always known that she wanted to create a place where deep thinking could flourish.
Long before the boom of AI, digital trends, and online programs, she dreamed of a home where people could gather to explore truth, nuance, and the moral complexities of our time. In April 2016, that vision began to take shape.
At The Philosophical Retreat, three to four guests are invited to step away from the noise, to slow down, to question, and to reconnect with their inner compass. Through curated conversations, thought experiments, and silent mornings in the Museum District of Amsterdam, you will learn to think freely, deeply, and critically.
This is not an escape from the world. It’s an opportunity to re-enter it with clarity, courage, and insight.
This is not a hotel. It’s not a program. It’s a home. And for a brief moment, it can be yours too.
After nine years within the platform economy, Sézane’s Lodges continues independently. The Philosophical Retreat is open to those ready to book directly and willing to learn how to think for themselves. Quality over quantity. Depth over noise.
Let’s explore today’s moral dilemmas together and enjoy the ride.
Neighborhood
The Museumplein district is one of the best neighborhoods in Amsterdam, located in Amsterdam Old South. Within walking distance, you’ll find the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Concertgebouw, and Vondelpark. Just a ten-minute walk will bring you to Leidseplein, Amsterdam’s main area for dining, drinks, and nightlife. A twenty-minute walk takes you to the RAI, the largest conference center in the city.
Sézane’s Lodges is located in this prime area, only twenty seconds from Museumplein and the renowned Concertgebouw.
In just five to ten minutes, you can walk to Leidseplein, where you’ll find a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, clubs, and theaters, including the Hard Rock Café, the Stadsschouwburg, and the Melkweg music hall.
The vibrant and youthful neighborhood of De Pijp is also just a short walk away. In five to ten minutes, you’ll reach the Albert Cuypmarkt, a fresh market open daily (except Sundays). The area is filled with cafes, restaurants, shops, and a wide range of international cuisines to explore.
Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s Central Park, is a ten-minute walk from Sézane’s Lodges. In the summer, enjoy open-air concerts, live music performances, or simply relax at one of the park’s cafés. It’s the perfect spot for a walk, a jog, or a picnic in the greenery with a bottle of wine.
In short, Sézane’s Lodges is perfectly situated in the heart of everything you want to experience. Whether you walk, rent a bike, take a tram, or hop in a taxi, you’ll have easy access to all of Amsterdam’s main attractions. Schiphol Airport, Centraal Station, and the RAI Congress Center are all well-connected to Sézane’s Lodges.
